RoboNav aims at the development of an integrated navigation system for robots for remote and challenging environment. The developed robot system can perform transportation and maintenance tasks to support end user such as mountain rescuer or maintainer of alpine infrastructure. Two main innovations will be addressed in the project. On one hand by using earth observation data and results of previous projects are used to obtain routing data depending on the robot locomotion type. The goal is to simplify the deployment of the robot to new regions because no prior mapping step is required. On the other hand the project combines expertise from Geo Science and Robotics to develop an integrated navigation concept for robots in challenging environments tackling all navigation aspects like localization, routing, and guidance for a robotics use case. The navigation system will be integrated into a robotic platform demonstrator and finally evaluated in use cases defined by prominent end users.
